The First Crunch to End Childhood Hunger on June 8th.
At Backpack Buddies, we’re eager to expand our services in the Tri-Cities. With a few schools already on our list, and more to be added in the 2019-2020 school year, we couldn’t think of a better way to get to know the community than by having some “crunch time” on the Coquitlam Crunch Trail.
Rain was in the forecast the week leading up to our first annual Crunch to End Childhood Hunger, but thankfully the sun prevailed and we welcomed 120 participants on a lovely Saturday morning in June.
The family-friendly walk and fundraiser featured a hike up the 4.4km Coquitlam Crunch, food trucks, beverage bars, bouncy castle and face painting. Adults, children, volunteers, furry friends and dignitaries joined in the fun!
Co-founder Emily-anne welcomed the community, along with City Councillor for Port Coquitlam Steve Darling and Mayor of Coquitlam Richard Stewart. When it was time to start the Crunch, Mayor Stewart got everyone to the start line with an enthusiastic, “On your marks, get set, go!”
The crunch trail provided a fun challenge for everyone. We loved being outside with our Backpack Buddies family – check out our photo gallery below.
We are exceptionally grateful to our sponsor Ethical Waste Services and to our talented volunteer photographer Mavreen David.
See you next year!
